Stockholm Business Region contributed to 71 foreign direct investments during 2009, according to the year-end result. That was an increase from last year, and constituted nearly half of all foreign direct investments to Sweden.
The City of Stockholm is now partnering with Internet and new media conference SIME. The reason is SIME’s long-term commitment to arranging international ICT events in Stockholm.

The City of Stockholm has been awarded the Intelligent Community of the Year 2009. The award was announced May 15th at the annual Building the Broadband Economy conference in New York. The award is presented by the Intelligent Community Forum, ICF.

Intelligent Community Forum, ICF, named the City of Stockholm as one of the Top Seven Intelligent Communities of 2009 at a 21 January ceremony during PTC'09, the annual conference of the Pacific Telecommunications Council in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.

October 1st Anna Gissler will become the new CEO of Stockholm Business Region Development, the investment promotion and business development company for the City of Stockholm.
Stockholm is the 6th most competitive knowledge economy in the world according to World Knowledge Competitive Index 2008. Stockholm is also the only European region among the top ten, otherwise dominated by North America.
R2-D2, the know-it-all robot that serves humans in the Star Wars films, is hardly the answer. No other European region has so many companies that are ranked among the top 20 on the list.
The German pharmaceutical company Bayer Schering Pharma has chosen Stockholm for its Scandinavian head office. Stockholm’s strong position as home to one of the world’s premier Life Science clusters was a key factor behind the company’s strategic decision.
Representatives of the world’s airlines and airports will be gathering in Stockholm for an intensive three-day meeting to discuss new routes and destinations. The meeting, called Routes 2007, will take place on 23-25 September and is being organised by Stockholm Arlanda Airport and the City of Stockholm.
Stockholm’s financial market is the hottest in Europe, after London and Paris, for foreign direct investments according to Ernst & Young’s European Investment Monitor 2007.
Stockholm is further strengthening its position as the most attractive city in Scandinavia for business travellers and tourists. In 2006 a new record was set, with 8.9 million overnight stays in commercial forms of accommodation. Foreign visitors accounted for 3 million of these stays. Visitors from Germany, Britain, the USA and Norway top the list.
Stockholm is investing yet another EUR 70.5 million in Internet services for its citizens. Everything will be accessible on the Internet – the city’s complete public services within schools, childcare and housing for the elderly. The investment will also help make Stockholm the world’s most accessible city for people with functional disabilities.
 
The goal is to develop 100 new Internet services for the Stockholmers before the end of 2009.
The property market in Stockholm is among the strongest in Europe. In connection with the world’s premier real estate summit, MIPIM in Cannes, several leading analysis companies are emphasizing that Stockholm will be a continuing strong, expansive and profitable market.
Cinnober Financial Technology has just placed its first order with an international bank consortium, for a real-time platform allowing financial trade that meets with the new EU directive, MiFID. ‘BOAT’, is the brand name of the international consortium of nine leading investment banks, which has created a new market place for financial institutions based on Cinnober’s ICT platform and technology. They offer their services to Europe’s stock exchanges, equity dealers and financial business actors.
Stockholm is strengthening its already solid position as the economic capital of Scandinavia. The Swedish capital is being ranked as the fifth most expansive city economy, up from ninth place last year, in a recent survey of 91 European cities by real estate adviser Jones Lang LaSalle. Highest growth is expected in London, which thwarts Paris from the long-kept throne.
