General facts

Stockholm is located in the middle of Scandinavia. It is also the centre for business and cultural life in Scandinavia. Stockholm is considered a green, clean and friendly city and is beautifully located on the shores of the Baltic Sea.
  • Stockholm County contains 20 percent of Swedens total population. In the end of 2006 the County had 1,92 million inhabitants. City of Stockholm is the most populated area with 782,885 inhabitants.

  • Stockholm is considered a “green” city.  The county has no less than 219 nature reserves and the closest one is just a 10-minute subway ride from the city centre. The city has about 1,000 parks, which make up approximately 30 percent of the city’s area.

  • Stockholm is considered to have one of the cleanest environments among the capitals in Europe. The water is so clean you can go fish in the centre of the city.

  • Stockholm is one of the most IT-intensive capitals in the world. The infrastructure for mobile and land based sound, image and data communication is world class.
