Swedish State-owned companies are being sold
The six state-owned companies SBAB, Vin & Sprit, Vasakronan, OMX, Nordea and Telia Sonera are now being sold.
Some of the reasons for reducing public ownership in these partly or wholly owned government enterprises according to Mats Odell, Minister for Local Government and Financial Markets, are:
- The government sets the rules and should therefore not also be a player.
- The aim is to collect some SEK 150 billion during the present government’s term in office. The companies in question are worth more than that, but there is no rush in selling them.
- Another idea behind the government's policy is the belief that these companies would do even better in the hands of owners who have knowledge and resources to develop them and make them reach their true potentials.
