Cleantech

Energy- and environmental technology is one of the fastest growing investment sectors in the world. The Stockholm Region offers outstanding R&D and strong technology base. A variety of clean tech investment opportunities attracts FDI from countries like Norway, Finland, the USA, Canada and Germany.
The Stockholm clean tech industry consists of 2 700 companies and has the annual export growth of 16 %. The entire Swedish clean tech industry increased its turnover by 11% in 2006 and has had the exports growth of 75 % since 2003.

The Stockholm cleantech market is growing rapidly. Planned investments in new infrastructure to the value of € 20 billion and 80 000 new apartments, attract many foreign construction, consultancy and technology companies to Stockholm.

In the next 3 years, the City of Stockholm will invest €160 million in energy efficiency equipment. The Stockholm energy company Fortum continues its huge investments in CO2 -free heat and power generation.

Advanced public demands and a target of becoming a“CO2 free city in 2050” drive the local cleantech market. Stockholm has the highest environmental performance among European cities in 2006, according to the European City Monitor.

Internationally respected R&D institutions such as Karolinska Insitute, Royal Academy of Technology and Ångströms Laboratory at Uppsala University, as well as an innovative business climate, make the Stockholm region a unique testbed for clean technologies of tomorrow.
