The Royal Institute of Technology – KTH – in Stockholm has bought a Cray computer, with an initial capacity of 36 teraflops. When developed it will have a capacity of up to 300 teraflops which makes it one of the most powerful computers in the world. KTH is investing a total of SEK 133 million over a four year period, and the ambition is to be able to offer a research environment with conditions similar to those of American universities.
Imtech acquires NEA Group AB in (located in Örebro) for SEK 975 million. The acquisition means doubled workforce in the region and a major step forward for Imtech, assessing the Nordic countries as particularly attractive for the company's future goals. Imtech is one of Europe's leading providers of technical services.
The Paris-based venture capital fund Kurma Biofund has entered a collaboration with Karolinska Development AB in Stockholm. The aim is to identify investments in life science industry in Scandinavia and parts of Europe.
Newly formed Grayling is the world's second largest communications agency. In Sweden there are three offices - one in Stockholm. Grayling's goal is to become the leading PR firm in Scandinavia within three years' time. Trimedia and Mmd have been merged with the company. Grayling's international office is based in London.
 
The Swedish consulting firm Dedicera merges with Oxford Research. Oxford Research's Swedish department moves from Copenhagen to Stockholm. The company is part of Oxford Group.
Another direct route between New York and Stockholm have opened. It is a result of a collaboration between Delta Airlines, KLM and Air France.
Indian Kemwell expands its production for manufacturing pharmaceuticals in Sweden. The company has taken over Pfizer's unused factory in Uppsala. Production will increase from one billion to three billion tablets and the investment may eventually create 100 new jobs.
The Spanish fashion retail chain Designual has opened up a store in Sweden. It is located in the Täby Centrum galleria, north of Stockholm.
 
The american systems integrator Cyspan chooses to invest further in Stockholm. Today, the company has 32 employees across the Nordic region, and the goal is to be 200-300 employees by the end of 2010. The company mentions a good business climate as the biggest reason for the effort in the region.
Diamyd Medical, a small Stockholm-based life science company, has signed an agreement with Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, which is part of Johnson & Johnson. The company will develop and commercialize revolutionizing diabetes vaccine Diamyd. The deal is worth up to SEK 4.5 billion and could be one of the biggest medtech investments in Sweden ever. The investment is a step forward in Johnson & Johnsons ambition to become market leading in diabetes pharmaceuticals.
Norwegian Scandinavian Property Group, SPG, is expanding in Sweden. The company has recently made a number if major deals in the country and an office ha been set up in Stockholm.
Pieces store chain expands in Sweden. The pilot store in Örebro has done well and now the company is opening stores all over the country. Pieces is part of Danish company Bestseller together with a number of fashion chains including Vero Moda, Vila, and Jack & Jones.
Norwegian franchise business King Food opens another Burger King restaurant in the Stockholm region. The restaurant is located in Eskilstuna.
British pharmacy chain Alliance Boots has signed a letter of intent with Farmacevtföretagarna (an organization of small pharmacies) concerning joint operations. The agreement makes it possible for Swedish pharmacists to use the Boots brand.
German property investor LB Immo Invest aquires the new supermarket Coop Forum, near the City of Uppsala, from NCC. It's the company's first aquisition in Sweden.
Danish company Intravision has established a Stockholm office The company is named Ontime Sweden. Intravision develops time and resource management systems for Lotus Domino.
French investment company Z7 Group buys a majority of Swedish Deki tools.The company, which mainly specializes in industrial supplies, is renamed Atoo Europe.
Cap Gemini has aquired purchasing solutions provider IBX, a ten year old Stockholm based company and creators of the industry's first global end-to-end, Procurement-as-a-service offering.
 
German company Alphaform is creating Alphaform Sweden AB. The new premises are located in Kista north of Stockholm. Alphaform produces free form models and prototypes primarily for the ICT and life science industries. The choice of Stockholm is explained by the proximity to customers in these industries.
Google is expanding in Sweden. The current staff of about 60 employees in Stockholm will increase, and the plans include no upper limit for how many will be recruited. The motivation for investing in Sweden is said to be the access to relevant education, the strong culture of innovation and the availability of talent in areas like video and telecommunication.
Virtutech has developed the market-leading virtual systems development platform Simics. With the aqusition it is added to Wind River's product line. Virtutech customers included companies like Ericsson, IBM and Cisco. Wind River is a subsidiary of Intel.
Silobreaker, a provider of automated online news search services, has hired a Nordic business manager. The recruitment of Anders Kasberg, previously the CEO of Swedmar, is part of the company's expansion in Scandinavia. Silobreaker is a London-based company, but all development takes place in Stockholm.
Property Manager EFM Sweden which manages property for Nordic Retail Fund and Boultbee in Sweden has signed an agreement with one of the major Nordic pharmacy chains - Apotek1. The establishments concern nine shopping malls in Sweden. Three of them are located in the Stockholm area: Skärholmen, Ringen köpcenter, and Fältöversten.
Tektronix, a supplier of test measurement and monitoring instrumentation, has re-established operations in Sweden after a five-year long break. Ambitions include strengthening relations with Ericsson. The office is located in Stockholm.
Uppsala gets a new retail park, located in the shopping area of Boländerna. The park is owned by the German company IVG Immobile AG, one of Europe's largest real estate stakeholders and the start-up is managed by TK Development. Tenants include Media Markt, Sportson and Toys R Us. There are two additional projects: the mall "Entré" in Malmo, which started up last year, and a retail park in Danderyd, north of Stockholm which is planned for 2010.
Several major airlines are planning more routes and more frequent departures to Stockholm. The biggest expansion is made by Norwegian Airlines with flights to London, Helsinki, Edinburgh, Munich and several holiday destinations in the Mediterranean region.
Pharmacy chain Doc Morris is investing heavily in the newly deregulated Swedish market. It recently opened it's first Stockholm pharmacy and two more are planned for. Doc Morris is part of the Celesio Group which is from Germany. It has been reported that the Celesio Group is planning for a total of 100 pharmacies in Sweden.
Cubus clothing chain has had strong results and increased sales in the first months of the year. It is now opening three new and remodeled stores in Stockholm.
U.S. company Specific Media has opened an office in Stockholm. The company wishes to expand it's presence in Scandinavia.
British VC giant Bridgepoint has announced that it is preparing an offensive in the Nordic region. The Nordic office which is located in Stockholm will increase it's staff.
IT and pharma recruiter Vine Resources has opened its first satellite office in Stockholm, Sweden.
A leading provider of customer experience and process optimisation solutions has established a Swedish subsidiary, Jacada Nordic AB, and opened operations in Sweden to support the company's growing portfolio of customers in the region.
Automation company COPA-DATA is currently investing in Scandinavia and recently opened an office in Stockholm. Olov Emås has been recruited for the position of CEO. COPA-DATA provides operator interfaces for control systems (SCADA / HMI) and are mainly used to monitor and control industrial production / equipment.
Lensway has opened two new stores in Stockholm in early 2010. Lensway is wholly owned by Canadian company Coastal Contacts. The stores opened after a successful pilot project in Stockholm in 2009.
German discount supermarket chain Lidl has opened a new store in the Stockholm district Liljeholmen.
Metro Mark Hotel Group is moving forward with the acquisition of office hotel Park Venue in downtown Stockholm. The target group is entrepreneurs who seek temporary solutions at an attractive address, or need a temporary solution close to other customers.
The New York-based IT company IPsoft is setting up an office in Sweden. The new office is located in Stockholm. The plan is to hire about 40 employees during the year. IPsoft provides a system that monitors and maintains the  IT operations of companies.
Norwegian continues to expand its base in Stockholm and launches direct flights to London/Gatwick, Edinburgh and Munich.
IT consultancy Sogeti Sverige AB is planning to recruit 250 new employees in 2010. 70 of them will be working in Stockholm. Sogeti Sweden AB has 1,000 employees and 21 offices around the country. Globally, Sogeti Group has 20 000 employees in 14 countries.
Skogaholms bakery in Eskilstuna gets a big boost. Fazer chooses to start up two new production lines. This means new and re-employment.
The american hotel chain Marriott, is investing in Scandinavia. During 2009/2010 two new Marriott hotels will open in Sweden. Before 2013, an additional 15-25 new hotels will open in Sweden, Norway and Finland.
During 2010 Stockholm will be a test environment for eco-trucks. The project "Clean Truck" includes vehicles powered by biogas, ethanol and natural gas.
Cleaning firm Artupox has set up shop in Stockholm. The French company offers a newly developed concept of environmentally friendly cleaning services for offices, shops and warehouses and for events. All products are environmentally certified and are to contain one hundred percent natural ingredients. The treatment of waste is also made sustainable, to the extent that the garbage is sorted and recycled and the consumption of resources is evaluated.
Norwegian company Oslo Naeringseiendom A / S invests in the project at the Karolinska-North Station. The Norwegian company will develop about 85 000 square meters of the new Life Science area and the plan is to invest SEK 2-3 billion over a period of 5-10 years. For exemple, two tall landmark buildings called ”Tors Towers" will be built.
Oslo Naeringseiendom A / S specializes in life science concepts and have invested in, among other things, "the Oslo Cancer Cluster” back home in Norway.
The government monopoly on pharmacies was abolished last summer. Now, the Finnish group Oriola-KD in collaboration with Swedish corporation KF has agreed to buy 171 Swedish pharmacies. Price: SEK 5.9 billion. Together they form the joint venture Kronans droghandel retail AB.
Dental technician company Artilabs is moving forward in Scandinavia. The company is relocating a majority of its production from China to Västerås and invests in new facilities and automation of its production line. The goal is to become the market leader and have a turnover of SEK 250 million by 2012.
Representatives of two cities, one County Council, three universities and the business sector have jointly agreed to establish and develop a world leading life science area in the Karolinska-Norra Station district. At least SEK 50 billion will be invested in the area until 2025, which makes it the largest investment ever in Sweden.
Wall Street-giant JP Morgan is opening a third office in Stockholm. According to the newspaper Dagens Industri, the Swiss bank Credit Suisse also has plans to establish a Stockholm office.
A third big bank, japanese Namura has show interest in expanding in the Scandinavian region.
Spanish telecommunications companyTelefonica has opened new operational units in 15 European countries to further enhance the telecommunications services it offers corporations across the region. One of the offices has been set up in Sweden.
American company Johnson Controls is investing in Sweden in the Automotive Components sector. The manufacturing project means Johnson Controls will be transferring the production of Volvo car seats from a plant in Czech Republic to Sweden.
In early 2010, the world’s largest coffee chain will open its doors in Sweden – and they are doing it at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.
Elon, a supplier of home appliances, is planning to exand by creating another 20-30 stores in Sweden in the next couple of years. The Stockholm market is the main target for the exansion.
- We do not have enough many stores in that region, and the consumers there are also the most difficult to convince, says president of Elon Svenska AB Ove Örhn, to the online magazine Market.se.
Elon currently has 130 stores in Sweden.

Mobile manufacturer HTC opens its first office in Sweden. Manager for the office is Patrik Andersson, who previously served as Scandinavian sales manager at LG.
In a move to increase sales in Scandinavia, Expedia and Hotels.com open an office at Stureplan in Stockholm. Expedia and Hotels.com provide online reservation service for over 100.000 hotels. One of the goals of establishing an office in Scandinavia is to expand the database with more Scandinavian hotels, thus increasing the market share in the region.
IG Markets, the London-based specialist in derivatives trading, has opened an office in Stockholm. The office has eight employees to start with, and there are plans to expand within a year. The comapany provides IT tools for private investors who are interested in shares.
PlusFourSix, a company providing solutions for mobile marketing gets an injection of €2.65 million. It’s the Danish venture capital fund Via Venture Partners which has made an investment.
A new Indian company providing IT consultants has opened a sales office in Kista, Stockholm. Ikas Technologies focuses on small and average sized companies.

Ryanair expands in Stockholm with three new routes: From Oslo (Rygge airport), from Brussels (Charleroi) and from Memmingen outside Munich. Ryanair is also increasing the number of flights from Paris (Beauvais). All new routes open on October 25.
German consumer electronics retailer Media Markt keeps expanding in Sweden and the Stockholm region. A department store, the fifth establishment in the region, is planned to open in Uppsala north of Stockholm, during first half of 2010. The company is planning to employ between 70 and 100 people, and the store is going to be at least 4000 square meters, in the same style as the other stores in the retail chain.
Newly founded real estate consultancy firm Pangea Property Partners is going to establish it’s headquarter in Stockholm. The company was created by a merger between Swedish Lundberg & Partners and a team from SEB corporate finance located in Oslo, Norway. Pangea Property Partners offers local and international clients a range of services, covering areas such as real estate, hotel and project development. The Stockholm HQ will consist of 20 employees, with an additional seven employees at the Oslo office.
Community web site Facebook has chosen Stockholm as the location of its Nordic head quarters. According to web news paper Dagens Media, business is going to be up and running in September.
